Birthday Legos!

For the past while we have been getting a call every Sunday from our favorite Iowans-Jon, Heather, and their kids. Technology these days is amazing in that it allows us to not only talk to people who live so far from us, but we can also use facetime to see them and what they are doing! I have a lot of respect for our ancestors and so many more who would literally be saying goodbye forever if they had to move across the country or ocean to seek new opportunities. I am grateful that we can still talk to and see our families after our move to Houston.

However, I digress. The purpose of this post is simply to reiterate what a wonderful husband I have...and that he loves legos. Asher Farrell also loves these aforementioned building blocks of wonder. Asher called to show Brandon some lego creations that he had made in celebration of his birthday. They then spent over an hour together on facetime playing legos. Brandon would hold up a piece and ask Asher where he wanted it, they discussed design, what it would do, etc. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more...the 6 year old, or the 26 year old. Either way, I thought it was simply lovely :)

Finished Product!

I am so blessed and grateful that Brandon was born 26 years ago. He is the best!

A flamingo in Houston?!

The subdivision we live in has a nice park with a running/walking trail, baseball diamond, and a great duck pond. I have already enjoyed seeing the many turtles who live in there out sunbathing on a log, but driving home from church on Sunday brought a new surprise from the pond. I had glanced over while talking to Brandon and was shocked to see a huge pink bird walking around in there.

"Brandon, is there a flamingo in the pond?!" I promptly requested that he pull into the parking lot so we could walk over for a closer look. No, it wasn't a flamingo, but it was a big pink bird with a funny beak/bill. Thanks to a google search (big pink bird with funny beak in Houston) we soon learned that it was a Roseate Spoonbill. He soon spread his big pink wings and flew away, but I am hoping for another sighting of him soon.

Brandon got some of our spoonbill on his phone and may upload those later.

Home is where the heart is...

We have always held to the adage that "Home is where the heart is." This has become more meaningful and exciting to us as we bought our first home this month. On Tuesday March 4, 2014 at 4:03pm we signed the last papers and were handed the keys to our house. Hooray!
The folder containing our title and all other important house documents!

Some people like to commemorate such things by sleeping on the floor of their new place that first night. We, however, feel that a lovely picnic dinner on the floor, followed by some amazing Blue Bell ice cream is the way to go (since our bed and everything was still set up in our apartment, we figure a soft mattress is preferable to sleeping on the hardwood floors).

Working in the yard (Yay! We have a yard!), changing locks, figuring out where in the world to unpack everything, and finding out which switches turn on which lights have been some of the exciting things so far. Please come and visit us anytime. We have spare rooms for you and will welcome you with true Texas hospitality-and of course some delicious Blue Bell ice cream.

Per the request of quite a few people, here are some pictures of our home. Hope to see you here soon!
Welcome to our home!
Come on in.
